Why We Don't Have Twitters

Awesome photo by carrotcreative
So eloquently stated by whatever guy writes for HolyTaco.com

But the fact is, nobody truly gives a shit about what you’re doing. So then why are they following your twitter feed? Because they’re hoping you follow THEIR twitter feed, so that they can make believe that someone cares when they say that THEY are going to the store to buy chex. And where does this leave us? It leaves us sitting outside a bar, at 11 p.m., confidently telling someone you’ve never met before, you have seventy thousand twitter friends.

Of course I'm sure one day we'll just have to get Twitters because at some point it will take over the entire internet like MySpace or Facebook has. Until then, we'll just avoid it til we get the point.

That said I do kinda understand why celebs have it. People really do care that Kevin Smith is going to the store to get some Chex.

Things That Need to Die: Bring It On Sequels

About ten years ago, I went to Target and bought Bring It On on VHS. My friends and I would recite the cheers in the middle of sixth grade English class. It was cute and funny and I still watch it from time to time.

Now, ten years later, they're still churning out straight to DVD sequels and each one seems to get progressively worse than the last. It's already bad enough E! fills up their empty time slots with Bring It On: All or Nothing, which has got to be one of the most apologetically racist movies that I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. And I've been avoiding the fourth sequel, Bring It On: In It to Win It, like the plague ever since I read about the movie's allusions to West Side Story. (Jets vs. Sharks? Seriously?)

And now there's a fifth -- Bring It On: Fight to the Finish.

"I don't speak Taco Bell menu." Still relying on racial jokes I see. You stay classy, Hollywood.

Chris Brown is officially deleted

I've been a bit reluctant to bring up the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna scandal just because there was so little information and I am one of those naive people that actually believes in the whole "innocent before proven guilty" things.

However, after the pictures of Rihanna's bruised face surfaced on TMZ (which I really don't wanna post), I really can't support anything Chris Brown. It's not like I was a huge fan (as you can see above, I had a grand total of 4 of his songs) but I can't have Poppin come on my iPod and actually sit and enjoy it without feeling like the biggest hypocrite. So Chris Brown's deleted, erased, removed, dead -- both on my iTunes and in my thoughts

Hope you'll do the same.

MP3s and UBH are done professionally

Breaking news: We are being watched.

We received a cease and desist order from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), saying "that certain content in your blog infringes upon the copyrights of others" according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you'll notice, last week's Songs of the Week post was deleted by blogger. If you'll notice, however, our previous posts with the music of The Rapture, MSTRKRFT, Dead Man's Bones, Aqualung, etc., are still up.

This is all Jay-Z's fault.

So in order to not get completely fucked from some greedy record label, from now on our songs of the week will replace mp3s with streaming music from imeem.

Yes, we know. This is some bullshit. Don't you miss the old days when you can just go on Napster and download, say, Eminem's entire catalog. Don't lie. You know you used to.

To lift your spirits, here is something we all can appreciate: David After Dentist

It's like the Internet! ...but not quite

I was reading the St. Petersburg Times the other day and read a story on how the Australian government has proposed tighter restrictions on the internet. Wait, what? A democratic country is pushing one of the strictest Internet bans in all of the world? There is something about that that sounds so...wrong. What is with this censorship and does the government really think this bullshit is going to work?

This all started by a child advocacy group who wanted to eliminate the amount of child pornography on the internet and with this filter not only will it block child pornography but other information such as abortion and sex education, as well as slow browsing speeds by up to 86 percent. So for all the Aussies jacking it, expect a much slower climax or blue balls if you get frustrated. The country's largest internet provider, Telstra BigPong has declined the filter, but others have taken part and for the wrong reasons. Provider iiNet has signed on to prove the filter won't work and the Managing director Michael Malone said he would collect data to show the government "how stupid it is." This filter has spent 30.7 million of the taxpayers dollars.

Instead of installing this filter, why don't they use the money to attempt to stop child pornography from happening in the first place? I know it's a long shot but spending ridiculous amounts of money to "protect our children" blows my mind. Why is it every generation there is a group of crazy parents who believes that the world is coming to an end if their child says God in the State of Allegiance or if the Bratz dolls are wearing see through underwear? Don't buy it for your children. Quit making a fuss about things. I grew up all right and so did Monica. My mom didn't buy me CD's with parental advisory stickers on them but we still listened to Eminem behind their backs. I saw porn before I was 18...ok, way before I was 18 and it didn't make me any more fucked up than the next kid. Parents have to protect their child the best they can. Children will always be curious and go behind your back to try things out. Drugs, alcohol, sex? It's obtainable no matter what you do. So instead of ignoring your child by going to these meaningless meetings to try to bring the man down why don't you read your child a book? Or check their homework because they probably didn't do it. Unless you're in America and you're one of these right wing nuts who home schools their child to believe that global warming is a myth and that science is fake because in that case your child is fucked on account of you and that is a shame.

I give it 6 months before the Australian government realizes, "Oh shit, we're wasting a shit ton of money on something that is providing no results." Trust me, I've seen child porn (pictures) when i was 12 or 13 and it's sick and we don't want to see it so I doubt your child will want to see his or her classmate dressed like a airbrushed slut.
